Counseling Process

Assessment

The initial hour long meeting will include gathering of background information, discussion of presenting symptoms and diagnostic assessment.

Outcome

While benefits are expected from the counseling process, results cannot be guaranteed. Responsible attendance of sessions combined with introspective psychological work on your part will influence the outcome of therapy. Your personal explorations may lead to major changes not just psychologically, but also in your life perspectives and decisions.

Recommendations

At the end of the assessment the counselor and you will discuss recommendations that include:

  • type of therapy,
  • estimated duration of therapy,
  • frequency of meetings,
  • collaborative planning of goals, and
  • appropriate interventions.

How long does the counseling take?

There are times when you may have a very specific question or concern that can be resolved quickly in one or two sessions. Often, however, this is not the case. Something may have been troubling you for months or even for years. In that case, it may take a longer time to accomplish the desired goals.
